We are collecting remembrances, materials, photos, and recordings for a retrospective art and music show in Burbank, CA, honoring White Cloud Xochillicueponi Quetzalkanbalam (Joseph Francisco Rodriguez).
We are looking for information or remembrances related to two productions by the Napa Valley Theater Company in 1972:
• Antigone, November 1972, with contributions from Betye and Lezlye Saar.
• Alice in Wonderland, August 1972, a play by Jose Francisco Rodriguez White Cloud.
White Cloud recalls that children loved the “Alice in Wonderland” play, attending every night and wanting to memorize the songs, knowing they might never see or hear them again. He painted the set/floor in day-glow colors, resembling a Huichol painting, which vibrated with the tension of the colors, offering a unique production through his indigenous perspective.
We are also sourcing materials for other Bay Area and Napa productions to help document the career of White Cloud. A page for Antigone will be posted, referencing a Napa Valley Register article from November 3, 1972.
